UC Continues to Rise in New Year

VARIETY OF GOOD NEWS STORIES SHOW WIDESPREAD MOMENTUM
|
As all Bearcats begin an exciting new year, our alma mater keeps adding to its vibrant list of success stories. President Pinto recently released his Year In Review; here are a few quick highlights from a busy and prosperous 2022:
- Students and Scholarships: Providing students with life-changing opportunities will always be UC’s top priority. That involves funding scholarships so more students can attend and graduate from UC. For example, this story from last fall illustrates how scholarships helped a family begin a new tradition of getting a great education here at UC; the younger sibling in the story (center of photo above) was part of the year’s inaugural class of Marian Spencer Scholars.
- UC Health: One of Greater Cincinnati’s greatest assets is our outstanding medical enterprise under the UC Health banner, which begins this year under the leadership of new president and CEO Cory Shaw. In 2022, we saw the continuing buildout of the UC Medical Center’s new Emergency Department. When completed later this year, it will set a new standard for rapidly and expertly handling the wide variety of cases it receives.
- Innovation and Research: Since the 1906 birth of cooperative education and even before, UC has been known for its innovative spirit and real-world approach to groundbreaking research. The most recent example is September’s grand opening of the Digital Futures building in the Cincinnati Innovation District, part of UC’s expanded campus. President Pinto hailed the initiative’s ability to “disrupt the silos of academic research and unleash the full power of creative innovation.”
- Athletics: In 2022, UC Athletics paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of Title IX with an all-female class of inductees into the James P. Kelly UC Athletics Hall of Fame. Director of Athletics John Cunningham called them “shining examples for our current student-athletes of how hard work can lead to success, and what it means to be a Bearcat-for-life.”
These and many other highlights showcase a university moving forward in every way. Watch for more great stories in 2023 and join us on campus whenever possible — we’d love to welcome you back.
Happy New Year — and Go Bearcats!
